Sustainable development requires equipped individuals and strengthened institutions capable of driving change within their communities. Capacity building through skill training, technical education, and entrepreneurship development creates self-reliant populations who can adapt to evolving challenges. By investing in human resources and fostering leadership, we enable communities to independently manage their development pathways and achieve long-term socio-economic growth.
Project Training Organization (PTO) for IWMP 3, 10, 28
Supported by VASUNDHARA through YASHADA – Pune, this component of IWMP orients stakeholders on various watershed works and associated costs while building capacities for effective implementation. Village Watershed Committees, Water Users Groups, Community-Based Organizations, and beneficiaries receive comprehensive training on judicious water resource utilization and conservation through structured sessions and exposure visits.
Technical training covers diverse watershed structures including Continuous Contour Trenches (CCT), Gabion plugs, Watershed Assessment Tools (WAT), gully plugs, earthen bunds, farm ponds, and farm bunding techniques. This capacity building ensures active community participation in planning, implementing, and maintaining water conservation infrastructure—fostering ownership and long-term sustainability of watershed interventions.
Training on Organic Farming
Reducing cultivation costs while improving soil health and crop productivity forms the core objective of this training initiative conducted in Arvi and Ashti blocks of Wardha district. Farmers received comprehensive orientation on organic farming practices including vermicompost preparation, jeevamruth, nimboli arka, dashparna arka, Non-Pesticide Management (NPM), Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and LEISA techniques—alternatives to costly chemical inputs that degrade soil fertility.
Practical demonstration plots enabled farmers to witness organic methods firsthand, facilitating easy comprehension and adoption. The program successfully converted 160 farmers from both blocks to organic farming practices, with many others transitioning gradually. By empowering farmers to produce household-level organic inputs cost-effectively, the initiative demonstrated that sustainable agriculture can be both economically profitable and environmentally responsible.
Capacity Building of Women SHGs
Women Self Help Group members received entrepreneurship training designed to expand their activities beyond regular savings into income generation through small enterprises. The comprehensive curriculum covered funding sources, business typologies, government schemes, roles of banks and financial institutions, and support mechanisms through DIC, MCED, MITCON, MIDC, and Khadi Gramudyog Mandal.
Participants gained knowledge about cottage industries and small-scale agri-based ventures including processing units for agricultural products, dairy, and fruits (value addition), along with marketing strategies and market potential assessment. The program encouraged women to establish businesses individually or collectively, fostering financial self-reliance and economic independence. By demystifying entrepreneurship and connecting women with institutional support systems, the training created pathways for sustainable livelihoods and women’s empowerment.
Training on Nursery Development
A 30-day intensive training program funded by the Project Officer, Integrated Tribal Development Project, equipped tribal farmers and youths with comprehensive nursery cultivation skills. Participants received hands-on training in seed sowing techniques, soil enrichment using appropriate fertilizers, bio-pesticide application, identification and management of common plant diseases and pest attacks, and greenhouse operations including temperature control.
This technical skill development initiative aimed to create local expertise in nursery management, enabling participants to establish income-generating nursery enterprises while supporting regional afforestation and agricultural development. By building capacity within tribal communities, the program fostered self-employment opportunities and contributed to environmental conservation through enhanced availability of quality planting material for farmers and development projects.
